Anime series currently being watched

  • Outlaw Star
Gene Starwind has always dreamed of having his own space ship, but there's a few problems... 1) He doens't have the money, 2) he gets a bit space sick & 3) trouble always seems to find him. For instance, one day he's hired as a body guard, & next thing he knows, he's got a Grappler Ship like he's always wanted, but it turns out it's stolen, & EVERYBODY seems to want it! [English version is a fun translation]
  • s-CRY-ed (ending 9/18)
Kazuma is your typical loner. He's broody & gets into plenty of trouble. However, his trouble is a bit different from what you may imagine. You see, Kazuma is master of a power he calls his Shell Bullet, which he uses it's destructive capabilities for mercenary-like work. When an organization decides it's time for these "Altar users" to be brought undercontrol, will Kazuma have the power to overcome the assault? [English version is a good translation]
  • Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040
For some, it's the one that started it all... for Cyber Punk, it IS the one that started it all! (Well, it's original OVA at least.) Before Major Kusanagi, of GitS (but after the US live action Blade Runner movie), there were the Knight Sabers. They were the first group of anime girls to go up against run-a-muck androids, known this first time around as mad "Voomers" or "Boomers" (VOodoo/ BiO Organic Metal Extention Resource). They dawn next-gen hard suits to battle the mutated metal monstrosities, as the AD Police are too inept to do anything about the rogue robots. Bubblegum Crisis was one of the first series to be dubbed State side, & is often one of the series sited by fans, especially if robots in a post-apocolyptic future are mentioned. With out Bubblegum Crisis, I don't think we'd have Ghost in the Shell! (To be clear, this is the later remake, the full 26 ep. series)
[They actually chatter their teeth in a freezing scene in the English Dub!
So I'll go out on a limb, & say they did a rather good job on the Dub]
  • The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Season 1)
What happens when a new girl shows up at a typical Japanese High School, whose only intersts are Aliens, Time Travelers, & ESPers (psychics/ telekenetics)? Add a bit of insanity & a secret Haruhi doesn't even know she has, & you get a different take on what happens after the classes let out... It's fun for all -- well, all but one... Oh, & did I mention she wants to make a movie!?
[As w/ most of my stuff, the English is a rather good dub]
Also make note, that the Group has voted to show Haruhi in Chronalogical order.
  • The Slayers
I may be showing eps of The Slayers on nights we manage to finish the usual 3 series early...

"Where monsters rampage, I'm there to take them down. Where treasure glitters, I'm there to claim it! Where an enemy rises to face me, victory will be mine!" [the nortorious Lina Inverse]

Armed to the teeth w/ insanely fast spells, & extremely powerful incantations, the notorios Lina Inverse is known throughout her realm as "Bandit Killer" & "Dragon Spooker", among other names she'd rather not be... She may be small, & not that well endowed, don't let her know you noticed, underestimate her, nor try to get out of paying... for if you do, you'll be lucky to escape w/ a well aimed Fireball that merely roasts you, rather than face her Dragon Slave, which is known to level most cities in seconds... not to mention obliterating a rare dragon now & again. This is a fun ride through the classic anime clearly based on Dungeon & Dragon's style RPGs! However, Naga the Serpent is strangely missing, but not missed, nor mentioned; & Lina's found someone new to pester 'til a certain Legendary object is handed over... But don't think Lina's doing all the pestering, as she is soon joined by a smaller, but better endowed, Champion of Justice/ Priestess/ Sorceress-in-training, whose clutziness may rival Sailor Moon herself! Destruction & laughs are guaranteed in this anime classic any "self-respecting" otaku has at least heard of!
